Yesterday was the 1201st anniversary of the Pardon in Josselin, and as you can see the weather was fantastic. Although it must have been tough for some of the quite elderly people carrying banners and all dressed up in the heat. There was a procession aux flambeaux the night before, very impressive, followed by a mass at the basillica. Then today we had hymns piped to us over the village sound system, followed by a procession from the basillica down our street and up the hill to a large square where there was an outdoor mass which lasted several hours (also piped to us,) and then they all marched back down the hill to the river and along by the castle. There were representatives from many neighboring villages carrying their banners. The whole festival is all about Mary and there was lots of singing of “magnificat” and other Notre Dame related hymns. More pictures:

All in all, a very big deal for the village and very interesting for us to see! More pictures later, we are off tomorrow for our big trip to Milan.
